Role Overview

Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) is seeking an experienced Loan Recovery Consultant to lead loan restructuring and recovery efforts for the Women’s Livelihood Bond™ (WLB) Series portfolios. This role requires extensive experience in distressed asset management, loan restructuring, and borrower negotiations within microfinance institutions (MFIs), financial institutions (FIs), or impact investment portfolios.

The consultant will ensure compliance with financial risk management, credit recovery, and debt restructuring regulations across India, Kenya, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines. This position will involve direct engagement with borrowers, legal advisors, and financial institutions to implement effective recovery strategies.

The compensation package is competitive, with a performance-based bonus structure linked to successful loan recoveries.


Key Responsibilities

Loan Recovery & Restructuring

  • Conduct financial due diligence and assess distressed loans to prioritize recovery actions.
  • Develop and execute loan recovery strategies, including:
    • Direct negotiations with borrowers for settlements and structured repayment plans.
    • Loan restructuring to balance repayment feasibility with recovery maximization.
    • Collaborating with financial institutions and lenders for effective recovery solutions.
  • Engage borrowers to resolve repayment challenges, ensuring adherence to loan agreements.
  • Adopt a solution-oriented approach to maximize recoveries while maintaining ethical financial practices.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with debt recovery laws and financial regulations in India, Kenya, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
  • Monitor regulatory risks related to loan restructuring, borrower negotiations, and asset recovery.
  • Work with legal teams and financial regulators to align recovery strategies with local financial laws.
  • Maintain proper documentation and reporting for all recovery-related activities.

Performance Metrics (KPIs)

  • Loan Recovery Rate: Percentage of recovered loans within defined timeframes.
  • Performance of Restructured Loans: Percentage of successfully repaid restructured loans.
  • Regulatory Compliance Rate: Adherence to local and international financial recovery best practices.
  • Negotiation Success Rate: Effectiveness in securing settlements without legal action.
  • Reduction in Non-Performing Loans (NPLs): Measurable decrease in portfolio risk and loan defaults.

Consultant Profile & Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in credit recovery, distressed asset management, and loan restructuring within MFIs, FIs, development finance institutions, or impact investment portfolios.
  • Strong knowledge of financial regulations related to loan recovery and restructuring in India, Kenya, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
  • Proven expertise in borrower negotiations, loan settlements, and structured repayment strategies.
  • Experience managing distressed assets with banks, MFIs, and impact investment funds.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, repayment modeling, and credit risk assessment.
  • Fluency in English; additional language skills (Hindi, Swahili, Bahasa Indonesia, Khmer, or Filipino) are a plus.
