Job Purpose

We are seeking a Java/Spark Big Data Developer to join the Enterprise Data Services team under Enterprise Operations and Technology. This role is focused on building the next-generation Data Platform using modern Big Data and Cloud technologies.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in the Big Data ecosystem, be a team player, and possess experience in Finance or Risk functions related to Retail or Wholesale Banking.

This is a unique opportunity to work with on-site Data Governance teams, enabling seamless data integration, processing, and quality management in a high-impact environment.

The GFTS Data Services platform is a global data repository for Citi’s contracts, positions, and balances, serving as a foundation for Finance, Risk, and Regulatory Reporting. The platform is undergoing a major transformation using the latest Big Data technologies.

Key Responsibilities

✔ Technical Development & Implementation

• Lead Java-based high-throughput data-intensive applications for data integration, consumption, and generation.
• Design and develop robust Data Quality frameworks.
• Build scalable ETL layers, rule-based validation engines, and rule repositories.
• Develop APIs for on-demand data processing.
• Work with large-scale data volumes, ensuring high performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Develop applications using Java, Spark, Flink, Kafka, Hive, and Airflow.

✔ Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead and mentor team members, guiding them in best practices and technical excellence.
• Participate in design discussions and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Work with global teams to deliver high-impact data solutions.

✔ System Design & Architecture

• Design and implement enterprise-scale Big Data platforms.
• Work on data governance, quality, and compliance standards.
• Ensure alignment with Citi’s coding and security standards.

✔ Testing, Deployment & Support

• Develop automated build and test pipelines.
• Conduct unit testing, system testing, and integration testing.
• Troubleshoot data quality issues and optimize system performance.

Required Qualifications & Skills

???? Education
✔ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

???? Experience
✔ 8 to 12 years of experience in Big Data development.
✔ Strong hands-on experience with Java, Scala, and Python.
✔ Expertise in Big Data technologies, including PySpark, Flink, Kafka, HDFS, Hive, and Airflow.
✔ Experience with Hadoop distributions like Cloudera/Hortonworks or Cloud Platforms (AWS, GCP).
✔ Proficiency in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), JSON, Avro, Parquet formats.
✔ Strong background in RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
✔ Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, or OpenShift is a plus.

???? Technical Skills
✅ Expertise in data pipelines, streaming, and event-driven architectures.
✅ Experience in CI/CD tools like GitHub, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and uDeploy.
✅ Working knowledge of AI/Gen AI tools like Copilot.
✅ Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve data quality issues.
✅ Familiarity with financial services, regulatory environments, and banking products.

Nice-to-Have Skills

???? Experience with Public Cloud Platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
???? Experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging services.
???? Familiarity with JIRA, Git, and Agile methodologies.
???? Understanding of Data Security & Compliance Standards.
