Role Overview

As a Database Engineer, you will join the Database Engineering team to build the next generation of cloud-based database platforms for American Express. The team is responsible for building and maintaining the DBaaS platform, using innovative technologies to achieve world-class engineering solutions with high uptime standards, similar to industry leaders like Amazon and Google.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development and support of on-premise and public cloud database platforms

• Perform hands-on architecture, design, and development of systems

• Identify potential problems in system architectures and implement solutions

• Implement database platform enablement strategies

• Provide production support on a rotational basis

• Seek opportunities to adopt innovative technologies in platform development

• Collaborate with Product Owners to understand upcoming features and ensure proper design integration

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent work experience

• Experience:

  • 3+ years of extensive programming experience in Python

  • 2+ years of experience developing Terraform modules with various providers

  • Experience with system configuration using Ansible

  • Familiarity with Linux and Database Administration (highly preferred)

  • Experience deploying public cloud services (Network, Security, Compute, and Database)

  • Experience with Container and Orchestration Technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift) is a plus

• Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in cloud database platforms and development

  • Strong understanding of Agile practices, programming languages, and business analysis

  • Ability to interpret technical and business objectives and articulate solutions effectively

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and apply them optimally
